A group of people standing on a farm with signs that read "Streamside Planting" and "Exclusion Fence."
Staff and Board from OCNRCD , Aubon VT Staff and farm family members posing after the planting was complete.

We started with the Jones farm, which is located in Craftsbury on a tributary to Cass Brook.in 2026 and have supporteed the completion of many projects like cover cropping and no till. Including program navigation services to support the farm to improve waste management and barn yard runoff throught the Agency of Agricultural BMP program and VHCB WQ grant.

WIth your USDA RCPP funding, in 2021, we worked with the Jones family farm to plant 1/4 acre riparin area site located within the farmstead and installed exclusion fencing.

We planted 70 bareroot stock plants including willow, maple, oak, chokecherry and dogwood. The willow was planted along the stream edge.  The number of plants is based upon a BMP of 300 stems/acre.

The project was identified during the land treatment and nutrient managment planning assessments as an RAP issue due to the lack of a 25ft buffer along on the annual crop land.

The family was interested in the planting project because the are was no longer in use and having a buffer also met their Caring Dairy habibitat improvement goal.
